Press Release
12/18/2009Mark Henry: Business owner, commercial pilot and Air Force reservist, Mark Henry, announced his intention to run for County Judge of Galveston County on 12/14. No stranger to politics, Mark Henry ran for an open US Congressional seat in 2004, was a Republican Party Precinct Chair until his decision to run for County Judge, has worked in the Galveston County Republican party for years and is editor of a conservative newsletter.
As a business owner, he is very disciplined about adhering to a budget. Not only will Mark Henry ensure the County lives within its means, he will be diligent to find cost-cutting measures as well without affecting County services. Mark believes that the County should be more responsive in working for the taxpayers.
Henry, a native Houstonian, graduated with a BS from University of Houston in 1987. While attending law school, Henry decided to apply to the Air Force and was selected to attend Officer Training School in January of 1989. 2nd Lieutenant Henry was commissioned by Lt Col Jerry Patterson (USMC Ret), now the Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office on May 4th, 1989. After attending the technically demanding Undergraduate Space Training, Lt Henry was assigned to the 1st Satellite Control Squadron, Colorado Springs, CO, controlling various classified satellite programs.
After six years of active duty, Captain Henry transferred to the Air Force Reserve and moved back to League City, where he’s resided since 1995. As a reservist, Henry has been on staff at Officer Training School, Squadron Officer College and worked as Assistant Executive Officer at the 560th Flying Training Squadron at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX.
“Being in the 560th was one of the most rewarding assignments I’ve had in the Air Force, I helped organize a POW reunion every year and it was a great group of guys to be around. I was always proud to be doing something for the men who gave so much for us.”
